About Us

We want you to be able to leave your cat with us with no sense of concern or guilt, safe in the knowledge that your little one is in the best of hands and that he or she will feel safe, happy and content, whilst you're away.

Our Story

Running a cattery has long been a dream for us. We had been looking to buy an existing business, but could not find anything, within our price range, of a quality that we felt we could put our name to.

In 2019, it became possible for us to realise our dream and build the quality cattery that we had been searching for. The building project turned out to be a very bumpy road with lots of unexpected and challenging twists and turns, thanks to Brexit, then Covid, as well as other obstructive hurdles placed in our way. -But we remained steadfast and focused on our goal, and today, Wolds Retreat is standing proud, - so far down the road that it has become central to our retirement plans!

About us

We have been dedicated and passionate owners of cats over the last 30 years, starting with Tina fishing a drowning kitten out of a canal in Stoke-on-Trent as a student. This was the beginning of a life-long love and fascination for these charming little creatures, and their quirky peculiarities. Over the years, we have dealt with many and varied feline related issues, and have done a lot of research and studying on different topics. This has inevitably led to a wide range of experience and understanding of cat psychology, different breeds and temperaments, the importance of instincts and needs, behaviour, communications and interactions, as well as welfare and health. In addition, we have both experience of assisting at veterinary practices on a voluntary basis. Tina is in the process of completing a Diploma in Feline Care, Behaviour and Welfare.

Both of us have enjoyed long careers in the public sector; Claire in the Criminal Justica system, and Tina in the field of education, from which we have already found many transferrable skills to assist us with setting up and running Wolds Retreat.

Tinkerbell

We adore cats and want to offer them the very best.

The latest addition to our little family is Tinkerbell. She is a 12 year old little tabby cat, whose owner sadly died. She had been fostered via Cats Protection for quite some time, and advertised on numerous occasions, but no one had shown an interest.

When we went to meet her, kept in an upstairs bedroom, we looked at each other and agreed that she would probably cost us a lot of money, time and effort, and that she would ultimately end up breaking our hearts, so, after no further deliberation, we decided to take her home to let her live out her days with us.

Tinkerbell came to us in quite a sorrowful state; arthritis, overactive thyroid, mites and fur missing over her backside, poorly tummy, bad teeth, almost deaf and weighing just 2.8 kg. Most worrying of all, we think she was depressed.

Now on medication including pain relief, Tinkerbell's thyroid is under control, her fur is growing back, her tummy has settled and she has put weight on. She is soon to have her teeth done, which sadly will involve some extractions as well.

We think that Tinkerbell has realised that she will be staying with us forever, and she has begun to live her best pensioner life, and why not? - what with food available on demand, lots of tasty treats, private healthcare and the freedom to enjoy her new garden or laze about on the couch in the house as she wishes! She is definitely a much happier little girl and she loves to follow us around the house and garden. As for us, no regrets what so ever; we are doting on her and feeling very much in love.

Every cat will receive the very best to make them happy and contented with us.

Look at that sad little face!
